    Prepare the puffed black beans, puffed rice, and puffed buckwheat.

    Add the sugar and water to the corn syrup and melt over low heat until clear.

    Pour the syrup from step 2 into a deep pan.

    Add the puffed grains from step 1 to the pan and stir over the heat until the syrup begins to form threads.

    Before the gangjeong hardens, shape it into ovals or roll it flat with a rolling pin.

    Cut the flattened gangjeong into diamond shapes.

Ingredient substitutions

Puffed grain
Another unsweetened puffed grain can work, with a different flavor and crunch.
Rice syrup
Honey or corn syrup can add sweetness, but flavor and thickness change.
Sugar
Honey or rice syrup works with a small texture change.
Water
Broth adds more flavor where appropriate.
